Throughout “50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy,” Baz Ashmawy attempts some serious, sometimes death-defying stunts alongside his Irish pensioner mother, Nancy. While the series may show Ashmawy pushing limits and taking chances, away from the camera he’s focused on a calmer, healthier lifestyle.

Ashmawy, 43, has great motivation to keep himself in tip-top condition. Not only is he an applauded British TV and radio personality, he is also a family man. Alongside his partner Tanja, Ashmawy is the parent to six children ranging from five to 21 years of age.

“I’m in okay shape,” replied Ashmawy when asked by the Irish Examiner about his physical condition. “I try to hit the gym every day. I stay for 40 minutes, maximum. I like to get in and out very fast. I don’t like to dilly-dally. I also like to go for hikes and walks with my kids.”

He continued: “I try to cut out sugar. No salt. Lots of water. Veggies. And I try and do that six days a week. I eat a lot of meat. I live with two vegetarians.”

Describing himself as “fairly boring,” Ashmawy conceded that he does “enjoy a healthy lifestyle,” and may only occasionally deviate from that path for “a cheese and crisp sandwich.”

Relaxation, of course, is also key to helping Ashmawy retain optimal health.

“I spend time with my kids. I see my friends when I can. I like to watch a bit of sport with them. I don’t tend to stress,” said Ashmawy regarding how he goes about relaxing.

“Ever since I got into being mindful and being healthy, it’s helped me to be very relaxed,” he added. “I’m lucky in the job that I do, I work with people I like and I do shows I like to make.”
